The Team
“I find it funny when most of my professional colleagues say that they have been cooking since they were young and that they started very early between pots and pans. I didn’t and I feel like I started at the right time! I’ve always enjoyed being the ‘cook’ for my friends, but nothing very classy, even with good reviews from them. That’s where I express myself between flavor and creativity and I found the opportunity to be with people who are different from each other at the academy and from whom I absorb and share knowledge, arriving home with a full heart! I am passionate about food design and I confess that in my opinion even a simple pork sandwich can be served in an almost artistic way.”
“I’m passionate about cooking and training! Only near the 30 years old I did had the courage to risk everything and throw myself headlong into the kitchen world. I do not regret it 1 min! I have already participated in amazing projects and I continue to learn every day! Now I’m fully dedicated with all my heart to a dream come true, the Lisbon Cooking Academy”
“In love with cooking from an early age, I learned from my grandmother to take my first steps in the area, with typical dishes and classic techniques, from the north to the south of the country. When Ana Viçoso, a former teacher, invited me to be part of the Academy, I didn’t hesitate – uniting the passion for cooking with the direct contact with customers, developing and sharing experiences, and working with a team with the same vision? The niche was found within the area, and here I am very happy!“
“Born in Mozambique and raised in Oporto, I arrived in Lisbon 10 years ago in pursuit of a dream of working in the field of Gastronomy. After my master’s degree in Gastronomic Sciences, I took a Culinary Arts course, where I met Ana Viçoso and a great friendship was born. Now, I accepted Ana’s challenge to join the Lisbon Cooking Academy team and I couldn’t be happier! I’m the one who receives your contacts and organizes all activities with our team of Chefs but I’m always ready to put on my chef jacket!”

We are vegan wanting to try Portugal’s famous egg tarts the pastel de natas.
Lisbon Cooking Academy has a large modern able to handle... read more groups from 2-8 people.
We took the Vegetarian Meal class and they were very accommodating to our food requests due to allergies and vegan options.
Our vegan meal included:
1. Tomatada - Portuguese tomato stew (sans the traditional egg)
2. Pexinchos da horta - green bean Tempura (yes, tempura originated in Portugal) and a sauce to dip them in.
3. Pastel de Natas - eggless vegan version.
Also included was a lovely bread (so good with the tomatada) and wine to top off our meal.
This company was so accommodating and our chef was very friendly and informative. Unexpected bit of new knowledge was the way to mince garlic for flavor minus the garlic breath.
The cooking classes are overwhelmingly traditional Portuguese meat and fish dishes, but our experience is that their vegetarian and vegan dishes are great too.
Best of all, we have the recipes to make again at home. I’m making the pastel de natas for our next holiday dessert.
Such a wonderful experience!
Would recommend to anyone who wants a great learning experience and exceptional meal.

Luckily I found the Lisbon Cooking Academy who had a small class available on Friday afternoon during our trip in September. Our class was just a small group of four which was perfect for getting a hands-on experience with Chef Ana Viçoso. Ana did a great job of explaining the process and allowing us to participate in each step of making our pastéis de nata. After we were done, we got to try the results we made – they were delicious - and got to take some of them with us to go. Afterwards, we also got an electronic copy of the Lisbon Cooking Academy Cookbook which includes the recipe we made along with many other Portuguese specialties. If you’re interested in a learning how to make Portuguese custard tarts, sign up for this class while you are in Lisbon!

I was greeted by the owner Ana and had some great conversations while waiting for the other participants to arrive. Ana has a great personality and she makes everyone feel comfortable and part of a family while she teaches us. Everyone participates and it’s very fun. Aside from the enjoyable class, the best part of the experience was sitting down and tasting our results. Absolutely delicious, perfectly crunchy puff pastry and smooth flavorful custard. I loved everything about this course and will return for another course next time I am in Lisbon. Most of all, a warm Thank You to Ana.
